Time and Care for Your One Precious Life

Most women in midlife were raised to care for everyone around them but themselves.. We believe that it’s our duty to always take care of everything and for everyone at all times. Thus, making ourselves a priority many times doesn’t even occur or it is a last thought.

Growing up, many of us are raised to think that as women, we are responsible to put the well-being of others before our own. Many women I have spoken to believe it is selfish or self-absorbed to take time for self-care.

As women, we are capable of a lot of things. We are strong, brave, and born fighters. But we can only do so much. Our capabilities rely greatly on our physiological and emotional health and the care for our health. And if we do not see the importance of putting ourselves first, the consequences on our health can be severe.

There are many factors that some may say are hindering them to fully take the time to care for themselves. Lack of time, fear of being judged as selfish, lack of confidence, or even not being aware that you should are just a few. To further help ourselves, it’s best to always think of the time we have as something that can be taken away if we do not use it wisely. In other words, if you don’t take time for you, then time may be taken from you in order to deal with the neglect of your own health.

We need to re-evaluate our time, resources, and energy and look at the consequences of not taking care of our needs. Holding off on this important matter may build up stress, anxiety, depression, and more problems that will affect not only us but the people who love and care for us.

Taking time for yourself can improve both family and marital relationships. It gives you the opportunity to get centered, to not come from fatigue or reaction. We think spending time caring for ourselves is going to take away time from others but it can improve the time we have with them.

One way we could check up on ourselves everyday is by asking, “What is one thing that you can do for yourself everyday?”

Could it be you treat yourself to a manicure, spending your free time reading books, meditating, inquiring into your own dreams, or going out with your friends? The choices are endless. It’s all up to you to find the will.

You have one amazing life, don’t waste it asking “What if?”.
